Day 1 : From Cusco to Colpapampa
We leave Cusco to reach Soraypampa through the villages of Izcuchaca and Limatambo. We arrive at approximately 9:30 am and take a good breakfast. Then, we start our long walk. We arrive at Huayrac (near noon), and take our lunch. After three hours of hike, we arrive at our first camp: Colpapampa.
Day 2 : From Colpapampa to Santa Teresa
This day will be unforgettable. Throughout the way, we cross an area where we will be marvelled at the great variety of flora and fauna. We start from Colpapampa and cross through the Collpachaka community. We keep on descending towards the forest border, where we will appreciate the thermal water in a small valley. Then, we follow the course of the Santa Teresa river, observing several orchids varieties and big waterfalls. We reach our campsite named Santa Teresa at 5 pm approximately, and take a good dinner before going to sleep.
Day 3 : From Santa Teresa to Aguas Calientes
We leave around 7:30 am to take a long walk by the forest border. A great variety of coffee cultures can be seen, as well as fruit trees: bananas, avocados, pineapples and some cultures of coca plantations, the sacred plant for the Incas. We take a small trail, which initiates the descent, after having taken our lunch. After 3 hours of descent we arrive in front of the majestic citadel of Machu Picchu, which we appreciate from a very new point of view. After a one-hour break, we keep on descending to reach a hydroelectric barrage. Then, we follow the railway to the village of Aguas Calientes, where we stay in a small hotel.
Day 4 : Machu Picchu
After a pleasant breakfast, we visit the Historical Sanctuary of Machu Picchu. In the afternoon, we go back to the city of Cusco by train.
